SSC: General Knowledge: History Part 1

1) John Marshall was the first scholar to use the term ' Indus Civilization'

2) Mohenjodaro- The largest site of Indus civilization(In Pakistan) and current location  of  Harappa also lies in Pakisatn.

3) Rakhigarhi - The largest Indian site of Indus Civilization and Giant water reservoir is in Dholavira

4) Chanhudaro- Only city without citadel in Harappa and Surkotada only site where remains of Horse actually found.

5) Wheat and Barley -are the main crops of Indus valley civilization and they were the first to produce cotton in the world and was called 'Sindon' by the Greeks

6) Iron was not known to Indus valley people and Lothal was ancient port of Indus civilization.

7) The chief male deity was 'Pasupati Mahadeva' i.e lord of Animals for Indus valley.

8) of the four Vedas that is Rig Veda, Sam Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda, Rig Veda consider to be the oldest text in the World.

9) Rig Veda-- Collection of Lyrics, Sama Veda-- Book of chants specially important for Indian Music,Yajur Veda-- Book of Sacrificial prayers only one among four to be in verse and prose and Atharva Veda--book of magical formula.

10) During Rig Vedic period Aryans were primarily agriculturalist and  pastoral people who reckoned there wealth in terms of cows( also lead to evolved of Gotra System).

11) Indra or Purandra became the most important god for Vedic People as 250 Rigvedic lines devoted to him.

12) Some Random Points:

National Park: Is an area which is strictly reserved for the protection of the wildlife and where activities such as forestry, grazing and cultivation are not allowed.

Sanctuary: Which is reserved for conservatio of animals only and operations such as harvesting of trees and miner forests products are allowed as long as they do not affect the animals adversely.

Peninsula: A Piece of land jutting out into the sea.

Estuary: A tidal mouth of river where fresh and saline water get mixed.
